It’s a new year! Welcome 2017! The perfect time to detox all aspects of your life and get back on track after weeks of holiday indulging. Not to worry, I have 5 life detox suggestions to help eliminate the bad and make way for the good in 2017.
1. DETOX YOUR BODY
Infrared saunas are so HOT right now. Pun intended. They penetrate your body at the cellular level helping you sweat out any chemicals and heavy metals. Infrared sauna’s raise your core temperature giving your immune system a boost to fight infections through the creation of white blood cells and T-killer cells.
Exhausted from the holidays? They are also great for relaxation and muscle aches and pains. It is crucial to shower quickly after your sauna session to prevent the reabsorption of any chemicals you sweat out! Also, you MUST hydrate like crazy before and after. Start off slow to see how you do. I sometimes feel a little sluggish the next day after a long session.
2. DETOX YOUR BEAUTY REGIMEN
This is a great year to swap out your beauty products for non-toxic brands. Our skin is our largest organ. Why not treat it the same way we treat the rest of our body? Limit your exposure to unnecessary chemicals and hormone disrupters by getting your green beauty on this year. Stores like Credo Beauty make it easy to swap out your favorite makeup and skin care for non-toxic and allergen-free options. I equate it to the Sephora for clean living. They have locations in San Francisco, New York as well as an online store.
3. TECHNOLOGY DETOX
We live in a world that revolves around technology. I enjoy the benefits it provides but I also think we could benefits from unplugging here and there. Let’s be real, sitting on Instagram waiting to see how many likes you get on your latest post probably is not the healthiest way to spend your afternoon. Dedicate certain times of the day or week where you power down and do something for yourself. Your body will thank you.
4. DETOX THE CLUTTER
I don’t know about you but having too much clutter lying around makes me a little nutty. I feel significantly more relaxed when things are cleaned up and in place. Dr. Sherrie Bourg Carter explains in her article Why Messes Cause Stress: 8 Reasons, 8 Remedies that “Clutter bombards our minds with excessive stimuli (visual, olfactory, tactile), causing our senses to work overtime on stimuli that aren’t necessary or important.” Start giving your home an overhaul and increase your well-being.
5. DETOX NEGATIVE PEOPLE
This is probably a no-brainer but it is not always as easy as it sounds. Maybe some of the people draining your energy are family! Dr. James Wilson, author of Adrenal Fatigue, The 21st Century Stress Syndrome discusses the importance of limiting or removing “energy robbers” from your life:
No matter how many right things you put into your body and your lifestyle, their positive effects can be undermined by too much contact with people who are energy suckers.
Now that is some pretty powerful stuff. Take some time to reflect on who might be causing you to feel drained. Surround yourself with people that make your feel good. Keep your positive vibe meter high!
There are many ways to detox your mind and body. Start with the detox suggestions that resonate with you the most. Odd’s are you already know what aspects of your life could use a little refresher but you are struggling to take the first step. Channel that new year energy into doing good for yourself.
