Hi, I’m Jen!
I’m really glad you’re here.
I believe how we treat our bodies affects every aspect of our lives. Our bodies are amazing vessels, working hard for us every day. Fill it up with cheap gas and go through life feeling sluggish, or nourish and allow yourself to thrive!
I believe in wellness as a lifestyle. The “I feel great in my body, in my clothes, in my skin” kinda life. What we put IN and ON our bodies matters.
My approach to wellness incorporates holistic methods to health and healing, limiting exposure to toxic chemicals and making time for self-care. Once you feel good on the inside, you can authentically radiate on the outside.
In my early twenties, I was living a life filled with take-out, high-stress, excessive drinking, and lack of sleep. I thought exercising in between the chaos would make me “healthy”. Then my life was turned upside down when I was hit with a debilitating illness.
I struggled with chronic illness for years, not knowing exactly what the problem was or how to fix it. After 10+ doctors and many tests, my diagnosis included Lyme Disease, 4 co-infections (tick borne), Epstein Barr, autoimmune and methylation issues.
My diagnosis should have been: body in shambles.
I spent years taking concoctions of pharmaceutical drugs. The last round was 6 weeks of intravenous antibiotics that I administered to myself through a PICC line. The last round of medication made me sicker than I ever could have imagined, leaving me at 94 lbs, 20 percent below my normal weight, exhausted, and barely able to function.
MY DIAGNOSIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN: BODY IN SHAMBLES.
Despite the overwhelming feelings of powerlessness, and fear that I’d never recover, a small part of me knew there had to be a better way to get well again.
Even if I couldn’t heal myself completely, I knew deep down I could at least improve my quality of life. In that moment of despair I made the decision to take a holistic path to healing.
I read every alternative health book I could get my hands on. I worked with top functional and holistic doctors including Dr. Susan Blum’s office, Dr. Leo Galland, Dr. Terence Dulin and Dr. Alan Dattner. I followed a strict, personalized diet combined with taking vitamins regularly. I experimented with detoxes, acupuncture, chelation, infrared saunas and various natural approaches to healing.
DESPITE THE OVERWHELMING FEELINGS OF POWERLESSNESS, AND FEAR THAT I’D NEVER RECOVER, A SMALL PART OF ME KNEW THERE HAD TO BE A BETTER WAY TO GET WELL AGAIN.
Putting my health first required major lifestyle overhauls such as cooking all my meals, cutting out alcohol and making rest a priority. I was willing to explore any alternative if there was a possibility of me regaining my energy and lessening my symptoms.
On this new path, I noticed my symptoms becoming less frequent and less intense. This continued until one day all of my debilitating symptoms disappeared completely! As an added bonus, my skin was clearer; I slept better and had more energy than I had in a long time.
I started blogging as a way to deal with my health experiences and connect with others struggling with similar issues. My passion for writing and helping others heal led to the launch of Jeans & Greens.
