Happy Superbowl Sunday wellness tribe! Today we are whipping up hand-cut potato chips and homemade hummus as game time munchies. To be honest, I don’t really care much about the Superbowl but I do love any excuse to make clean snacks.
I was really craving chips so I decided to experiment with making my own. I am not a fan of store-bought chips cooked in cheap oil and many not gluten-free. These are made with very simple ingredients.
And if you are going to have chips then you also need some dip. Naturally, I chose hummus because who does not love hummus?
Hand Cut Potato Chips
I used a bag of small tricolored potatoes so the slices would be similar to a regular chip. I love cutting up the purple ones. The insides are such a fabulous color. I included a picture below so you can check them out for yourself. How cool is that color purple?
Back to the recipe! I sliced the potatoes thin and covered them in olive oil and sea salt. Then roasted them for about 25 minutes on 400 degrees turning occasionally. Once they are cooked, transfer to a plate and let them cool.
Now for the hummus! I made a very simple recipe with the ingredients I had in my apartment. You can easily add other ingredients or spices to create different flavors.
- 1 15 oz. organic chick peas (keep half of the liquid)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1/4 cup of tahini
- 1/4 cup of lemon juice
- 1 clove of garlic
- 1 teaspoon of cumin
- sea salt
I used the Vitamix to make the hummus. Combine all of the hummus ingredients in the blender including some of the liquid in the chickpea can. Next, blend until smooth and garnish with a bit of paprika. Once blended, transfer the hummus to a bowl and put in the refrigerator to chill. Remove when you are ready to chow down on your fresh hand cut potato chips and homemade hummus.
This is one of the easiest clean snacks I have ever made and you don’t have to be a health nut to enjoy! I will be washing this down with some kombucha. Happy Sunday!
