The last two weeks have been filled with lots of stress and emotion as I transition to a new job. After 4 years with a company that I loved, I was itching for a new challenge. Saying goodbye was bittersweet, to say the least.
On my last day of employment, I also had to hop on a plane to Chicago for the weekend. When I returned, I felt especially drained from the mental exhaustion of the past two weeks plus the travel. I wanted to run away someplace tropical where I could eat unlimited guacamole while basking in the sun to recharge. With no time for a real vacation, I decided to treat myself to an organic facial instead.
I chose a facial because my skin was especially dry from the plane ride. I was able to get a same-day appointment at the Green Zen Organic Spa in New York City. Groupon.com is also great for finding deals near you.
I haven’t had a facial in over 10 years. I have sensitive skin and don’t like all the extractions and chemicals. Organic spas change the playing field. I thought it would be a good way to help me unwind and hopefully look refreshed even if I wasn’t feeling my greatest. Fake it until you make it!
The one-hour session forced me to unplug while my aesthetician slathered heavenly smelling products all over my skin. I spent the hour taking in and trying to identify the various essential oils and scents. The soothing music in the background put me into a meditative state. In between the slathering, I was left by myself with a mask on my face. Just me, the mask, soothing music and heavenly aromas. It truly is amazing how powerful and calming breathing in scents of flowers, fruits, and nature can be. The face massage helps too of course.
I felt significantly better after my one-hour session. Moral of the story, I didn’t have to leave the country to unplug. This one-hour spa treatment forced me to clock in some much-needed decompression plus the added bonus of looking well rested. No vacation necessary.
